Historic Expansion of Medical Education in Double Engine Government, Chhattisgarh Gets 5 New Government Medical Colleges

Raipur, July 13, 2026/ The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted approval for the establishment of 5 new government medical colleges with 50-50 MBBS seats each in Kodum (Dantewada), Kunuri (Jashpur), Manendragarh, Janjgir-Champa, and Kabirdham, starting from the academic session 2026-27. With this, a total of 250 new MBBS seats will be added to the state simultaneously.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai described this achievement as a historic milestone in the development of medical education and health infrastructure in Chhattisgarh. He stated that health and education are the greatest assets in building a developed Chhattisgarh. The state government aims to develop a robust, inclusive, and modern health system where no youth in the state is deprived of their dream of becoming a doctor, and no citizen has to travel to far-off cities for better treatment.
The Chief Minister said that the establishment of new medical colleges from Kodum (Dantewada), which was once affected by Naxal violence, to the tribal forest region of North Chhattisgarh, Kunuri (Jashpur), is proof that the double-engine government is bringing development opportunities to the last mile of the state. This is not just the establishment of new institutions but a historic initiative towards giving new flight to the dreams of the youth and laying a strong foundation for quality health services in remote areas.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the double-engine government is bringing unprecedented changes in the field of health and medical education. The establishment of medical colleges in remote, tribal, and aspirational areas of the state will provide more opportunities for quality medical education to local youth within their own state. Simultaneously, the availability of specialist doctors will increase, and the quality of health services at the regional level will also improve significantly.
Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt gratitude on behalf of all the people of Chhattisgarh to the honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Shri J.P. Nadda for this significant achievement. He stated that with the continuous cooperation and guidance of the central government, medical education and health infrastructure are rapidly expanding in the state.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the new medical colleges will not just be educational institutions but will be developed as strong centers for medical education, research, specialist health services, and local human resource development. This will not only prepare a new generation of doctors but will also ensure the availability of better treatment in rural and remote areas.
