Health Claims Fail to Secure Release for CGPSC Ex-Chairman
Former CGPSC chairman Tamhan Singh Sonawani’s bid for bail on the basis of serious cardiac ailments was rejected by the Chhattisgarh High Court. Sonawani’s petition highlighted that doctors had installed a temporary pacemaker on 20 August 2026 and suggested a permanent implantation was advisable. The bench, however, found no verifiable medical documentation confirming that his condition was life-threatening or that adequate treatment could not be provided inside the prison.
Justice Bibhu Dutta Guru, presiding alone, referred to the Enforcement Directorate’s evidence which positions Sonawani as an active conspirator in the recruitment scam and associated money-laundering activities. The judge emphasized that bail cannot be granted merely on unsubstantiated health assertions.
