Mango is an important basis of Indian culture, agriculture and rural economy. There are immense possibilities for Mango Tourism in Chhattisgarh - Mr. Ramen Deka Raipur, May 29, 2026/ Mango is not just a fruit but an important basis of Indian culture, agriculture and rural economy. Farmers should come forward to develop mango products on a large scale by adopting modern techniques along with traditional farming. Governor Mr. Ramen Deka was present as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the National Mango Festival organized at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur today. The program was presided over by Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai. In his address, the Governor said that India is a leader in mango production in the world and more than a thousand varieties of mangoes are found in the country. Mentioning the characteristics of local mangoes of Chhattisgarh, he said that the farmers of the state should create their own identity by producing high-quality varieties. The Governor said that such exhibitions and festivals provide an opportunity for mango producers from various states of the country to gain information about each other's advanced farming methods, new varieties and innovations. He said that there are immense possibilities for mango production in areas like Bastar, Kondagaon, Kanker and Surguja. There are also vast opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship in this field for women self-help groups. Mango tourism also has immense possibilities in Chhattisgarh. The Governor said that along with mango production, special attention needs to be paid to its value addition. For this, the agricultural university and Chhattisgarh State Seed and Agricultural Development Corporation should work together. Mr. Deka said that making our lives eco-friendly is the need of the hour. Various measures will have to be adopted to promote water conservation. He specially emphasized planting one tree in the name of mother and rainwater harvesting. Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai said that mango is the king of fruits. The leaves and wood of mango also have immense importance in our lives. During auspicious occasions in our homes, we make torans from mango leaves and use dry mango wood in havan and puja. More than 250 varieties of mangoes have been displayed in this festival. Chief Minister Mr. Sai inspired the residents of the state to take advantage of this festival. Mango varieties ranging from the size of a berry to large ones like Bijapur's Hathijhul are also available in the exhibition. The Chief Minister said that as per the vision of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, the state government is committed to doubling the income of farmers and mango cultivation will also prove helpful in fulfilling this resolve. After the inauguration of the Mango Festival, Governor Mr. Deka and Chief Minister Mr. Sai observed various varieties of mangoes in the exhibition put up by mango producers. On this occasion, Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Seed and Agricultural Development Corporation Mr. Chandras has Chandrakar, Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Farmers Welfare Council Mr. Suresh Chandravanshi, and Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University Dr. Girish Chandel, Director of Research Services Dr. Vivek Kumar Tripathi, along with Vice-Chancellors, Deans, professors from other universities, farmers and a large number of spectators were present.
