Raipur, Specialist doctors from the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) department of Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Bilaspur, have saved the life of a 6-year-old child with their prompt action. This child from the Baiga tribe had accidentally swallowed a coin while playing, which got stuck in his food pipe (esophagus). The team of doctors successfully operated and removed the coin in a highly complex and emergency situation.

According to information, the 6-year-old child, Narendra, a resident of village Sargon in Kota tehsil of Bilaspur district, suddenly swallowed a coin around 7 am while playing. Immediately after, he started experiencing extreme difficulty in swallowing anything. The family rushed him to a private hospital in Pendra, where after primary treatment, given the child's critical condition, he was immediately referred to SIMS Bilaspur.

The child was brought to SIMS around 6:30 pm, after which the hospital's entire staff became active. Head of Radiology, Dr. Archana Singh, immediately conducted an X-ray and identified the exact location of the coin stuck in the upper part of the esophagus (just behind the opening of the windpipe). Considering the seriousness of the situation, the team of Head of Anesthesia, Dr. Madhumita Murthy, administered general anesthesia to the child. Subsequently, led by Head of ENT, Prof. Dr. Aarti Pandey, and Assistant Professor Dr. Shweta Mittal, the team of doctors very carefully and safely removed the coin using the rigid esophagoscopy technique. The entire procedure was completed without any complications, and the child's condition is completely normal and satisfactory post-operation.
