Collector Suspends Patwari Caught Taking Rs 25,000 Bribe
The Bilaspur district administration has suspended a patwari after a video showing him taking a Rs 25,000 bribe was widely shared online. Collector Sanjay Agrawal issued the suspension order with immediate effect against Rishipuri Goswami.
The matter was referred for inquiry to Tehsildar Pachpedi once the video gained attention. The Tehsildar's report, submitted on October 28, found the charges to be prima facie proven.
The bribe was taken in connection with a government revenue matter. The Collector's order states that the act goes against the Chhattisgarh Civil Services Conduct Rules and falls under grave misconduct. It further notes that the incident has harmed the image of the government.
Background of the accused official
Goswami was earlier posted at Patwari Halka Number 14. At the time of the case, he held charge of Patwari Halka Number 05 in Tehsil Pachpedi.
Charge sheet deadline
The Collector has asked the Tehsildar of Pachpedi to prepare a charge sheet against the patwari and submit it within seven days. This marks the start of formal departmental action alongside the suspension.
Suspension arrangements
For the duration of the suspension, the patwari's headquarters has been fixed at the Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue) office in Kota. He will receive subsistence allowance as per the prescribed rules.
The administration has indicated that any further action will be determined once the departmental process advances.
