Collector‑SP Reviews Shivrinagar Relief Camp Amid Rising Mahanadi Waters

Raipur – September 28, 2026 – In line with Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai’s directive, the district administration has placed the Janjgir‑Champa river‑front under heightened vigilance as the Mahanadi’s water rises. Collector Janmjeet Mahobe and SP Vijay Kumar Pandey arrived in Shivrinagar to examine the riverbank, the bridge, and the Bairaj locality.

The officials inspected the temporary shelter at Shri Mahant Laldas College, confirming that displaced families are receiving adequate accommodation, meals, safe drinking water, electricity, sanitation, and toilet facilities. They were reminded to keep these services uninterrupted and to respond promptly to any gaps.

Because of the increased flow, the Mahanadi bridge has been closed to vehicular movement. Continuous monitoring has been ordered, and the public has been cautioned against venturing near the swift currents. Additional security arrangements are being implemented at other sensitive points along the river.

Health department teams are conducting regular medical examinations, ensuring a steady supply of medicines, and taking preventive actions against water‑borne infections.

All concerned departments—including revenue, police, municipal forces, water‑resource and health agencies—have been instructed to cooperate closely. Persistent surveillance of the riverbanks and flood‑susceptible areas is being maintained, with extra manpower and resources on standby for rapid evacuation and rescue operations if conditions worsen.

Through loudspeaker announcements, residents are being briefed on flood risks and advised to stay away from the river, bridges, and fast‑moving water. The Collector‑SP appealed to citizens not to take selfies or videos near hazardous zones and to report any emergency immediately.

The district administration continues to monitor the Mahanadi’s levels closely, ensuring that relief, health, and safety measures are synchronized and that the needs of affected people are met promptly.
