Cluster-Based Biomass Model Aims to Raise Farmers' Income

Experts at the workshop stressed the need to re-imagine crop residues and animal waste as income-generating assets. By aggregating biomass from farms, forests, livestock operations and municipal sources into clusters, transportation costs can be trimmed and a steady feedstock flow secured for processing units. The cluster approach also envisions linking Farmer Producer Organisations, self-help groups and village cooperatives to the value chain, thereby expanding earnings for cultivators and creating green jobs in collection, logistics and plant operation.
