Raipur, July 13, 2026/ During the monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai today expressed grief over the demise of the Padma Vibhushan awardee, world-renowned Pandavani singer Dr. Teejan Bai, and paid her a heartfelt tribute.

While mentioning her demise, Chief Minister Shri Sai said that with the death of Dr. Teejan Bai, Chhattisgarh has lost a precious gem of its folk culture. Her departure has caused an irreparable loss to the art and cultural world.

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that Dr. Teejan Bai took the Kapalik style of Pandavani singing to new heights and, with her unique talent, gave folk art national and international recognition. Her performances showcased a wonderful blend of singing and acting. The vivid portrayal of characters, her powerful voice, and impressive presentation used to mesmerize the audience.

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that Dr. Teejan Bai's life is an inspiring example of struggle, dedication, and commitment. In an era when women's participation in Pandavani singing was extremely limited, she challenged social norms, created her own identity, and became a source of inspiration for future generations. He said that Dr. Teejan Bai established Chhattisgarh's cultural identity on the global stage through her impactful performances in many countries across Asia and Europe. For her unique contribution, she was honored with numerous national and international awards, including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. In 2019, the Government of India honored her with the Padma Vibhushan, the country's second-highest civilian award. She is the only personality from Chhattisgarh to receive this honor.

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that President Smt. Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, and Union Ministers have also paid tribute to Dr. Teejan Bai, recalling her invaluable contribution to the field of art. He also mentioned that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, during his visit to Raipur on the occasion of Rajya Utsav, had spoken to Dr. Teejan Bai's family over the phone to inquire about their well-being.

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that many universities have honored Dr. Teejan Bai with honorary D.Litt. degrees. Her contribution to the preservation and promotion of Indian folk music and folk culture will always be etched in golden letters. Her art, dedication, and commitment will continue to inspire future generations to be proud of their cultural heritage and to take it forward.

On behalf of the House, Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai offered a humble tribute to the deceased Padma Vibhushan Dr. Teejan Bai and prayed to God to grant her soul a place at His divine feet. He said that God grant strength to the bereaved family, her countless fans, and the world of art to bear this immense grief during this difficult time.
