Chief Minister highlights One Health focus of IGKV BSL‑3 laboratory
During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai underscored the laboratory’s role in advancing the One Health paradigm, which integrates human health, animal health and environmental stewardship. The BSL‑3 facility will enable interdisciplinary studies that examine how agricultural practices, livestock management and ecosystem changes influence disease emergence.
The university’s existing phytosanitary lab already processes soil, water and crop samples. Adding a high‑containment BSL‑3 unit expands its capability to investigate dangerous pathogens under strict safety conditions, fostering a seamless flow of data between plant, animal and medical researchers.
The minister highlighted that the lab will support the development of vaccines and therapeutics for zoonotic infections, improve diagnostic accuracy, and strengthen the state’s disease‑monitoring network. He also praised Dr. Girish Chandel, Vice‑Chancellor of IGKV and CEO of the Chhattisgarh Biotech Promotion Society, for his leadership in bringing the project to fruition.
By providing a modern research platform, the BSL‑3 laboratory is expected to generate skilled manpower, promote scientific innovation, and position Chhattisgarh as a regional hub for bio‑security research.
