Chhattisgarh receives 'GeM Sustainable Procurement Award', government procurement doubles to ₹3,935 crore

Procurement from Government E-Marketplace by the state increases by 113% in one year, orders worth ₹1,800 crore received by Micro and Small Enterprises.

Savings of ₹130 crore for the state in the year 2025-26 through competitive bidding process.

Raipur / Chhattisgarh has been honored with the ‘GeM Sustainable Procurement Award’ at the 10th anniversary celebration of Government E-Marketplace (GeM). This honor was presented in the presence of the Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Shri Piyush Goyal, at a ceremony held in New Delhi. The theme of the ceremony, held on the occasion of GeM completing a decade, was ‘GeM 10: A Decade of Exponential Possibilities’.

Under the ‘Premier Awards – State Government Facilitation’ category designated for state governments, Chhattisgarh received this award for its effective use of GeM and the significant increase in the value and volume of government procurement through it.

Savings of ₹130 crore from open competition

Due to the transparent and competitive bidding process on the GeM platform, the Chhattisgarh government has achieved savings of ₹130 crore in the financial year 2025-26. This saving comes from the difference between the estimated cost for procurement by departments and the actual market price obtained after open competitive bidding.

GeM's open bidding process, standardized specifications, and the digital and auditable record of each transaction ensure transparency and competition in government procurement. In the last three financial years, the state government has saved a total of ₹235 crore through competitive procurement.

Checks and monitoring systems are in place at each stage of the procurement process. Additionally, tender conditions and technical specifications are regularly reviewed to ensure the quality of procurement and the availability of goods and services according to changing requirements.

113% increase in procurement through GeM

Government procurement in Chhattisgarh through GeM increased to ₹3,935 crore in the financial year 2025-26. This is a 113% increase compared to the previous financial year.

This growth has been possible due to the well-planned efforts by the state government to bring the procurement of departments, corporations, and local bodies onto a common and transparent digital platform. This has brought more government procurement under the purview of open competition and ensured competitive rate determination and transparency in every transaction.

Orders worth ₹1,800 crore to Micro and Small Enterprises

The extensive use of GeM has also led to a rapid increase in the participation of small entrepreneurs in government procurement. In the financial year 2025-26, procurement from Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) increased by 61% to ₹1,800 crore. This is significantly higher than the prescribed 25% MSE procurement target.

There has also been a significant increase in the participation of priority entrepreneur categories in the state. Procurement from women entrepreneurs increased by 97%, and procurement from Scheduled Caste-Scheduled Tribe entrepreneurs increased by 108%. Meanwhile, procurement from startups saw the highest increase of 178%.

GeM has opened government market doors for entrepreneurs: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai

Expressing his delight over this achievement, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that GeM has provided Chhattisgarh's entrepreneurs with a powerful medium to connect directly with government demand and the market, without any intermediaries. The significant increase in participation from women entrepreneurs, Scheduled Caste-Scheduled Tribe entrepreneurs, and startups demonstrates the success of this transparent system.

Chief Minister Shri Sai stated that an open and transparent digital marketplace offers equal opportunities to every entrepreneur. Our government's endeavor is to extend the benefits of this system to as many micro and small entrepreneurs, women entrepreneurs, Scheduled Caste-Scheduled Tribe entrepreneurs, and startups in the state as possible. We are continuously moving towards building a developed Chhattisgarh by strengthening local entrepreneurship alongside transparent government procurement.
