Chhattisgarh Moving Towards Energy Self-Sufficiency with PM Surya Ghar-Free Electricity Scheme

Raipur, Chhattisgarh is rapidly working towards promoting clean and renewable energy and making its citizens self-sufficient in the energy sector through the Prime Minister's Surya Ghar-Free Electricity Scheme. Rajnandgaon district has emerged as an excellent example of the effective implementation of this scheme. Based on its achievements under the scheme, Rajnandgaon has reached the fifth position in the state.

So far, 8,256 applications have been received in the district under the scheme. Rooftop solar plants have been installed in the homes of 4,120 beneficiaries, while documentation verification, plant installation, and other necessary processes for the remaining cases are being rapidly completed.

Under the scheme, 3,205 beneficiaries have so far received the benefit of subsidy from the government. Furthermore, the electricity bills of 1,155 families have become completely zero. These families are now making significant savings on electricity expenses by using solar energy according to their needs. Many beneficiaries are also becoming partners in energy production by sending excess electricity generated to the grid.

With the aim of delivering the benefits of the scheme to every eligible family, 'PM Surya Sabhas' are regularly organized in the Gram Panchayats of all Janpad Panchayats in the district. In these gatherings, citizens are being informed about the scheme's eligibility, application process, required documents, subsidy details, and the complete process of rooftop solar plant installation. Applications from eligible beneficiaries are also being received on the spot.

Under the Prime Minister's Surya Ghar-Free Electricity Scheme, the government is providing subsidy to eligible beneficiaries as per the prescribed provisions. The objective of the scheme is to reduce domestic electricity expenditure, promote clean and green energy, reduce carbon emissions, and realize the goal of an energy-self-reliant India.

The achievements of Rajnandgaon district are a testament to the fact that with effective public awareness, timely implementation, and beneficiary-centric efforts, the Prime Minister's Surya Ghar-Free Electricity Scheme is becoming the foundation of an energy revolution in both rural and urban areas.
