Chhattisgarh Allocates Funds to Beautify Mukherjee Memorial Sites

In a move aimed at preserving the memory of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the Chhattisgarh state cabinet has approved a total outlay of ₹10.60 crore for erecting his statues and upgrading the surrounding precincts in thirty‑two civic jurisdictions.

The plan earmarks ₹50 lakh for each of the five divisional headquarters—Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Jagdalpur, and Ambikapur—while the twenty‑seven district‑headquarter bodies will receive ₹30 lakh apiece. The funding will cover the casting of the bronze statues, foundation work, and comprehensive landscaping to create aesthetically pleasing public spaces.

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw emphasized that the initiative will coincide with Dr. Mukherjee’s 125th birth anniversary on July 6, offering citizens a tangible reminder of the scholar‑politician’s dedication to national cohesion and cultural pride.

He also highlighted that the statues will act as educational tools for schoolchildren and university students, illustrating Mukherjee’s historic milestones, including his tenure as the youngest vice‑chancellor of a major university and his early involvement in parliamentary affairs.

The Urban Administration and Development Department is instructed to adhere to a strict timeline, ensuring that the installations and associated beautification projects are completed with high quality standards and become accessible to the public at the earliest possible date.
