Chhattisgarh: Ex-Sarpanch's Son Stabbed to Death in Dhamtari

A chilling murder case has come to light from Dhamtari district in Chhattisgarh. In Mujgahan village, close to the city, two young men were attacked with sharp weapons by a group of masked assailants. The assault proved fatal for Deepanshu alias Deep Sahu, the 22-year-old only son of former sarpanch Chandrashekhar Sahu.

His cousin Vikas was critically wounded and is receiving treatment at the district hospital.

The incident happened on October 21, around 9:30 pm, in Mujgahan, about three kilometres from Dhamtari city. Five to seven masked men, reportedly from the Ratnabandha and Panchvati colonies, targeted the two youths over an old feud. Deepanshu succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Avenging a Friend's Death

The murder appears to be linked to revenge for the killing of a friend, which is considered the main reason behind the crime. Police have taken swift action and registered a case against unidentified accused.

By Thursday evening, four suspects had been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Police are actively searching for the remaining accused, who are reported to be absconding.

Investigation Points to Past Case

Preliminary inquiries have found that Deepanshu and Vikas were remanded to jail roughly two years ago in the murder case of Amit Goswami, a resident of Mujgahan village. Both were subsequently granted bail.

CSP Abhishek Chaturvedi said masked miscreants attacked two youths in Mujgahan, leading to Deepanshu's death. He added that Vikas is under treatment. The old rivalry is suspected to be the root cause, and more arrests are expected soon.
