Chhattisgarh Assembly: A Living Example of Excellent Work Culture and Healthy Parliamentary Tradition – Governor Shri Ramen Deka

Raipur, 15 July 2026 – The Chhattisgarh Assembly, since its formation, has developed outstanding traditions of democratic values, parliamentary dignity and discipline that are appreciated at the national level. It is a matter of pleasure that on 1 November 2025, the successful Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Assembly building, and today, within the same complex, the newly constructed auditorium was inaugurated by Governor Shri Ramen Deka. This marks an important achievement in strengthening the institutional capacity of the Assembly and democratic system. Chief Minister Shri VishnuDev Sahay addressed the ceremony of the inauguration of the new auditorium, emphasizing excellence. In this dignified ceremony organized to honor democratic traditions, parliamentary values and outstanding public representation, Governor Shri Ramen Deka inaugurated the new auditorium. During the programme, MLA Shri Dharmlal Kaushik and MLA Shri Raghavendra Kumar Singh were honoured with the Outstanding MLA award for exemplary parliamentary work. Journalist Mr. Santaram Sahu of Dainik Patrika received the Outstanding Parliamentary Journalist award, and BBC-24’s Mr. Saurabh Singh Parihar and Dr. Rajesh Raj were presented with the Outstanding Electronic Media Reporter award. Governor Shri Ramen Deka said that the Chhattisgarh Assembly is the centre of public service where legislators perform sacred duties for public welfare, and therefore the parliamentary house has been described as a temple, whose reputation depends on the conduct, behavior and thoughts of its members. He added that the Chhattisgarh Assembly is counted among the finest legislatures in the country. The coordination, harmony and respect between the ruling and opposition sides in this Assembly are commendable and exemplary. Governor Deka congratulated all honoured representatives and journalists, wishing them well, and urged them to remain accountable to the people and work with dedication. He called for collective effort for the state’s development, engagement with senior citizens, participation in cleanliness drives, and prioritising work that brings positive social change. Chief Minister Sahay stated that the Chhattisgarh Assembly is the first and only assembly in the country where a legislator is automatically suspended upon entering the chamber, a system that exemplifies self‑discipline, parliamentary decorum and commitment to democratic values. Such distinctive parliamentary traditions have given the Assembly a unique national identity. He highlighted the role of journalism as the fourth pillar of democracy, stressing that parliamentary journalists play a vital role in conveying the Assembly’s proceedings, public interest issues and democratic debates to the people in an unbiased and factual manner, strengthening democracy. He praised the journalists for their impartial and responsible reporting. Chief Minister Sahay praised the honoured legislators, noting that Mr. Dharmlal Kaushik’s public life is rich and experienced, and that he has successfully discharged various important duties as Assembly Chairman, enriching parliamentary traditions. He added that Mr. Raghavendra Kumar Singh, despite being a first‑time elected MLA, has presented factual, studied and effective contributions in the House, creating a positive identity. Their respect reflects democratic values and exemplary parliamentary conduct. Assembly Chairman Dr. Raman Singh, in his address, said that after the inauguration of the new Assembly building, today’s inauguration of the new auditorium is another important achievement in the Assembly’s development. He stated that the sixth Assembly will always be remembered for preserving and enhancing excellent parliamentary traditions during its term. He noted that the greatest feature of the Chhattisgarh Assembly is that, despite political differences between government and opposition, members discuss state‑interest topics positively and meaningfully, reflecting a healthy democracy. Dr. Raman Singh added that the Excellence award is not only a recognition of personal achievements but also a means to encourage the best parliamentary democratic traditions, motivating representatives, journalists and democratic institutions to be more accountable and excel. The cultural programme featured renowned devotional singer Mr. Anoop Jalota, whose melodious bhajans enthralled the audience and filled the auditorium with a spiritual atmosphere, making the event memorable. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Arun Saav and Shri Vijay Sharma, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap, opposition leader Shri Chandradas Mahant, MLAs, Assembly Secretary Shri Dinesh Sharma, senior administrative officials, journalists and many distinguished citizens.
