Chhattisgarh achieves major milestone under CM Vishnu Deo Sai, becomes first state to receive incentive under SASCI 2026-27; Rs 50 crore approved by Govt of India for CBG ecosystem development
Raipur, Chhattisgarh has achieved a significant national accomplishment in the direction of promoting clean energy, green development, and increasing farmers' income under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. Appreciating the innovations and effective efforts being made for the development of the Compressed Biogas (CBG) ecosystem in the state, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, has approved an incentive amount of Rs 50 crore for Chhattisgarh under the Capital Investment Special Assistance Scheme (SASCI) 2026-27. Chhattisgarh has become the first state in the country to receive this incentive amount under this scheme.
Expressing happiness on this achievement, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that the state government is continuously working to promote clean energy, increase farmers' income, conserve the environment, and strengthen the rural economy. He said that Chhattisgarh is rapidly making its distinct identity at the national level in the field of biofuels, and this achievement is an important milestone in that direction. The Chief Minister congratulated the officials of the Energy Department and the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority for this success.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that Chhattisgarh's new Compressed Biogas policy will play a transformative role in the state's agriculture, energy, and environment sectors. It will ensure the scientific utilization of agricultural residues, provide farmers with a new source of additional income, and promote environmental conservation through better management of stubble and other bio-residues. He said that our government is committed to giving a new direction to the green economy by balancing development and environmental conservation.
He said that the state government's goal is to make Chhattisgarh a leading state in the country in the field of biofuels and clean energy. Effective implementation of the CBG policy will give new impetus to investment, employment, farmers' income, organic farming, and environmental conservation in the state, further strengthening the resolve for a developed Chhattisgarh.
The state government notified the Chhattisgarh Compressed Biogas Policy-2026 on June 8, 2026, with the objective of promoting compressed biogas projects. Through this policy, clean gaseous fuel will be produced for industrial and commercial use by scientifically converting agricultural waste, paddy straw, and other biomass available in the state. This will provide additional income to farmers from the supply of biomass, while the bio-fertilizer obtained from the plants will play an important role in promoting organic farming.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Sai, the state government has given special emphasis on promoting investment in the CBG sector, creating a conducive environment for industries, and developing a coordinated working system among various departments. In this regard, a state-level review meeting was organized on August 3, 2026, at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan, Nava Raipur, under the chairmanship of Shri Subodh Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary, Energy Department. Detailed discussions were held in the meeting on subjects like biomass collection system, single window clearance, use of bio-fertilizers, departmental coordination, and investment promotion for the rapid development of CBG projects in the state. The Principal Secretary directed all departments to ensure timely and coordinated action.
In the meeting, Shri Sumit Sarkar, Chief Executive Officer, Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority, gave a detailed presentation on the establishment of CBG plants in the state, investment opportunities, policy implementation, and future action plan. Senior officials from various departments including Commerce and Industry, Agriculture, Urban Administration and Development, Panchayat and Rural Development, Animal Husbandry, Transport, and the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board were present on this occasion.
