Steps Towards a Cancer-Free Future: Special HPV Vaccination Week Begins in Dhamtari

A significant initiative has been undertaken in Dhamtari district to protect daughters from life-threatening diseases like cervical cancer. A special HPV vaccination week commenced today, July 13, 2026, and will continue until July 18, 2026. Under this grand campaign, the health department is providing the life-saving HPV vaccine free of cost to all eligible girls aged 14 years. The health department has made extensive preparations for this, from schools to health centers.
An Infallible and Safe Shield Against Cancer
The Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) highlighted the importance of the campaign, stating that Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the primary cause of cervical cancer. He emphasized that the HPV vaccine administered on time is the safest, most effective, and scientifically proven means of preventing this serious cancer. This vaccine almost eliminates the risk of cancer in the future, making vaccination for all eligible girls extremely important.

To ensure the campaign's 100% success, the health department, women and child development department, and education department are working together. The vaccine will be available free of cost at the District Hospital and Community Health Centers (CHC), Primary Health Centers (PHC) and Health and Wellness Centers (HWC), identified schools in the district, and designated special vaccination session sites.

In his message, the Collector stated that the healthy future of our daughters is our collective responsibility. The HPV vaccine is completely safe. I urge all parents not to pay attention to any misconceptions or rumors and to trust health experts to get this vaccine for their 14-year-old daughters. This small decision of yours can provide your daughter with lifelong protection. He appealed to all public representatives, teachers, Anganwadi workers, Mitanins, voluntary organizations, and social institutions in the district to turn this into a public movement. He reiterated the resolve that not a single eligible girl in the district should be deprived of this life-saving vaccine.
