Bhilai BJP Ex-Treasurer Arrested in Rs 300 Crore Case

Sandeep Agarwal, a former treasurer of the Bhilai district unit of the BJP, has been arrested by Kolkata Police in Jharkhand. He was wanted in an alleged business fraud case and had remained untraceable for around 13 months.

The arrest took place when Agarwal reportedly went to a police station in Jharkhand to surrender. Police tracked his location and took him into custody right outside the station. He was subsequently produced before a court, which sent him to 10 days of judicial custody.

The allegations

According to the case, Agarwal is accused of siphoning off more than 300 crore rupees in the name of business. Cases have also been filed against him in Gujarat, West Bengal and Jharkhand over alleged business-related fraud worth over 100 crore rupees.

Several relatives and associates have been named in connection with the matter.

How the search unfolded

For months, police teams searched for him across multiple cities, including Ahmedabad, Gandhidham, Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Bhilai and Kolkata. The breakthrough came when his location was traced to Jharkhand.

Family members under scrutiny

Agarwal's brothers, Sanjay Agarwal and Sachin Agarwal, have been named as accused, and lookout circulars were issued against them. Both were lodged in jails in Gandhidham and Dhanbad for around 13 months and were later released after the Supreme Court granted bail.

Sanjay Agarwal's wife, Rakhi, has also been named as a co-accused. She was granted bail after roughly two months in Dhanbad jail.

Political connections questioned

Complainants allege that Agarwal posed as a BJP leader in Bhilai to build influence and used political clout to avoid action. These claims come from the complainants and are yet to be established.

The Gujarat matter

Agarwal had already been granted bail in a case registered with the DCB police station in Gujarat, where police have filed a chargesheet. Jharkhand Police had also pasted a notice at his home following a court order.
