Bastar's Remote Villages Get Connected: Bada Bodal Road Begins

Bastar's interior is beginning to see a new kind of change. Road construction has started in Bada Bodal village of Jagdalpur block, a settlement that was long isolated because of both Naxal fears and difficult access routes. Areas that were once considered too hard to reach are now seeing construction machinery and development work.

The government has placed greater emphasis on basic infrastructure in regions that have moved away from Naxal influence. The work in Bada Bodal is one visible example of this shift, with the village's road connection being built as the weather has become favorable for construction.

The project falls under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-IV). The 1.80 kilometer road from Surnadawada Road to Bada Bodal is being developed at a cost of about Rs 1 crore 92 lakh 6 thousand. It is intended to end a long period of limited connectivity for residents who previously struggled to meet even basic daily needs.

A wider network across Jagdalpur

The Bada Bodal road is part of a larger package. Nine roads in Jagdalpur development block have been approved under PMGSY-IV, with a total length of 33.39 kilometers. The L-139 route to Bada Bodal is included in this list, and it is expected to make travel easier for nearby remote habitations.

What year-round access could mean

The completed road is expected to provide dependable movement for Bada Bodal and surrounding villages throughout the year. Students, farmers, patients and villagers are likely to be the main beneficiaries. Reduced difficulty during rains could make it easier to reach schools, health facilities and agricultural markets.

Peace and development move together

In districts that have been freed from Naxal influence, the priority is shifting to roads, education, health and other public services. The new construction in Bada Bodal shows how this strategy is taking shape on the ground.

For Bastar, the real test lies beyond ending violence. Turning security gains into steady development will depend heavily on whether roads can reach the most remote villages, and the progress in Bada Bodal may become an important measure of that transformation.
