Ban on Nomination of Family Members of Elected Women Representatives as Nominees

The state government has banned the nomination of family members of elected women representatives in urban local bodies. The Department of Urban Administration and Development has published a notification by amending the Chhattisgarh Municipal (Qualifications for Nomination as Representative by Member of Parliament or Member of State Legislature or Member of Rajya Sabha) Rules, 2022 in this regard.

According to the new amendment in the Chhattisgarh Municipal Rules, 2022, published by the Department of Urban Administration and Development in the Chhattisgarh Gazette, in any urban local body, the husband, son, daughter, brother, sister, or any other close family member or relative of an elected woman public representative will not be nominated or appointed as their indirect representative or coordinator. This restriction has been implemented in all urban local bodies with its publication in the Gazette.
