Anti‑Corruption Probe Leads to Bail for Former City Engineer

Bilaspur, 22 August 2026 – After a thorough probe by the Anti‑Corruption Bureau, former chief engineer Bagirathi Verma obtained regular bail from the Chhattisgarh High Court. The engineer, who oversaw city‑level projects between 2019 and 2023, was alleged to have extracted a 25 percent commission from contractors for awarding municipal contracts. The complaint also mentioned that Verma collected roughly ₹2.02 crore through various channels. Following the ACB’s filing under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the court’s single bench granted bail, allowing Verma to leave jail while the trial continues.
