Amarkantak Express Delayed 45 Minutes, Raising Railway Concerns

A 45-minute delay in the Amarkantak Express has once again highlighted the troubles faced by rail passengers in Chhattisgarh. The delay affected RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, who was waiting at Usalapur railway station in Bilaspur to travel to Jabalpur.

The train was expected to arrive at its scheduled time, but it reached the station only after about 45 minutes. Bhagwat left for Jabalpur once the train arrived and security arrangements were in place.

Travel Plans Affected by Late Train

Bhagwat was scheduled to leave Bilaspur on Friday night after completing a two-day visit. The Amarkantak Express, which runs from Durg to Usalapur, was his planned transport. Reports indicate that he arrived at the station around 9 pm, while the train came in after 9:45 pm.

During the visit, held on October 22 and 23, he took part in several organisational engagements. He spoke at an intellectual session on the first day and held discussions with office-bearers on the second day at the Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Koni. He had dinner there after the programmes ended before heading to the station.

At this stage, no specific cause for the delay has been revealed in the report.

Public Interaction Held a Day Earlier

The timing of the delay has drawn attention because the South East Central Railway had held a public interaction programme at its zonal headquarters the previous day. The programme was intended to address passenger problems.

However, reports suggest that passengers did not get enough time to raise their concerns. Railway General Manager Tarun Prakash inspected the station and spoke with travellers during the same period.

Questions have been raised about whether the persistent issue of train delays was given adequate attention during the programme. For many passengers, a delayed train can affect not only travel schedules but also work and connections with other services.

Demand for Timely Service

Express trains running through Chhattisgarh have faced repeated complaints about delays. The railway administration has previously cited infrastructure development and construction work as factors that affect operations.

While expansion and modernisation of the network may increase capacity in the long run, passengers need dependable services now. Timely information and clear accountability are also essential.

The key questions are simple. What measures is the railway taking to reduce delays? Are passengers getting accurate information? Will the problems raised during public interaction programmes be resolved within a defined timeframe?

A single delay does not reflect the performance of the entire network, but the recurring complaints make punctuality and responsiveness a matter that needs continued attention.
