AI technology to inspect PMGSY roads in Chhattisgarh - Deputy CM Vijay Sharma's major decision

Raipur, July 10 2026 – The Chhattisgarh government is taking a revolutionary step to improve the maintenance and quality of rural roads built under the Prime Minister's Rural Roads Scheme (PMGSY). Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology will now be used to make road monitoring and repair more transparent and effective. Deputy Chief Minister and Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Vijay Sharma gave strict instructions in a high‑level review meeting to implement the AI‑based road inspection system on the ground as soon as possible. During the meeting it was announced that each PMGSY road in the state will be inspected each month using video‑based surveys. A special AI‑driven app and dashboard have already been prepared. The AI will automatically identify potholes, cracks and other damages on the roads and analyse them, providing real‑time accurate information and preventing misleading data. Sharma said that, based on AI‑generated data, the most damaged and deteriorated roads will be prioritized for maintenance. Budget plans will then be prepared and repairs started immediately, ensuring better use of government resources and smoother, safer travel in rural areas. A pilot project will start tomorrow; the Deputy CM directed officials to begin AI‑based inspections on one selected road in each district as a trial. After thorough analysis of the initial results, the system will be rolled out statewide. This modern technology will extend road lifespan and timely repairs will give citizens better facilities. The meeting was attended by senior officials including Additional Chief Secretary of Panchayat and Rural Development Richa Sharma, Secretaries Bhim Singh and Dharmesh Sahu, PMAY Director Tarun Prakash Sinha, and NRLM Director Ashvani Devangan.
