ABVP Threatens Demonstrations Over Classroom Penalty in Chhattisgarh

The recent disciplinary case at Birla Open Mind International School has become a flashpoint for student activism in Chhattisgarh. After a teacher forced an 8th‑standard boy to transcribe a vulgar expression about his mother 200 times—split equally between Hindi and English—the boy’s family lodged a grievance, sparking outrage among parents and civic groups.

Representatives of the All India Student Union (ABVP) visited the district education office, presenting a detailed note of protest. They demanded the immediate suspension of the teacher and called for a transparent inquiry. ABVP leaders warned that any delay in taking decisive action could lead to a mass rally outside the school, aimed at pressuring authorities to protect student rights.

District Education Officer Dinesh Jha has taken the matter seriously. He directed an assistant director to conduct field interviews and review school records. The DEO assured the media that the department will not tolerate any form of mental harassment in schools and that the investigation’s findings will be published for public scrutiny.

The situation underscores growing concerns about disciplinary practices in Indian schools and highlights the role of student unions in ensuring that educational environments remain safe and respectful.
