₹50 Crore Central Aid Boosts Clean Energy Drive in Chhattisgarh

Raipur – In a move that underscores India’s push for renewable fuels, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has granted Chhattisgarh ₹50 crore under the SASCI 2026‑27 scheme to develop a compressed biogas (CBG) ecosystem. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai hailed the approval as a historic moment, making the state the first in the nation to receive such a central incentive.

The chief minister affirmed that the allocation will reinforce the state’s strategy to promote clean energy, safeguard the environment, and boost farmer earnings. He highlighted that Chhattisgarh’s bio‑fuel sector is rapidly gaining a national profile, and the grant acts as a catalyst for further progress.

The CBG Policy‑2026 is designed to transform agricultural residues into valuable compressed biogas, thereby offering farmers a lucrative alternative to traditional crop waste disposal. The initiative also promises improved waste management, reduced air pollution, and enhanced soil health through organic fertiliser distribution.

The government’s vision is to position Chhattisgarh at the forefront of bio‑fuel and clean‑energy production in India. By implementing the policy effectively, the state expects increased investment inflows, job creation, growth in organic farming, and a revitalised rural economy.

The policy was formally promulgated on 8 June 2026, outlining a framework for the scientific conversion of agricultural waste, paddy straw, and other biomass into clean gaseous fuel. The by‑product organic manure will support sustainable farming practices and provide an additional income stream for cultivators.

On 3 August 2026, a state‑level review meeting chaired by Principal Secretary (Energy) Subodh Kumar Singh took place at the Mahatma Gandhi Bhawan in Naya Raipur. Participants deliberated on biomass collection, single‑window clearances, bio‑fertiliser usage, investment incentives, and inter‑departmental coordination.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority delivered a presentation on prospective CBG plant locations, investment opportunities, and future work plans. Senior officials from various departments pledged swift execution of the agreed‑upon projects.
