Chennai's zone‑wise development gets dedicated ministerial oversight

The state of Tamil Nadu has introduced a zone‑specific ministerial framework for the Greater Chennai Corporation, assigning a senior cabinet member to each of its fifteen administrative zones.

The chief coordinator, Adhav Arjunan, will synchronize the efforts of all zone ministers and ensure that the corporation’s development agenda aligns with broader state objectives.

Assignments include: Ramesh for Tiruvottiyur (Zone 1) and Manali (Zone 2); T. Lokesh for Thiruvanmiyur (Zone 3) and Tondiarpet (Zone 4); Dr. K. G. Arun Raj for Royapettah (Zone 5) and Thiru‑Vika Nagar (Zone 6); M. Vijay Balaji for Ambattur (Zone 7), Anna Nagar (Zone 8) and Thiruvanmiyur (Zone 9); Dr. T. K. Biju for Kodambakkam (Zone 10) and Valasaravakkam (Zone 11); Vijay Tamilan Parthiban for Alandur (Zone 12) and Adyar (Zone 13); and K. Vignesh Perungudi for Zone 14 and Sholinganallur (Zone 15).

The ministers will hold weekly progress meetings with Greater Chennai Corporation officials, assess the status of infrastructure projects such as road widening, water supply upgrades, and public health facilities, and intervene where delays are identified. By giving each zone a direct line to the state cabinet, the government expects faster decision‑making, heightened accountability, and more effective delivery of welfare programmes to Chennai’s residents.
