Cheema Accuses Congress of Factionalism and Targets Leadership

During an interview with IANS, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema launched a pointed attack on the Congress party, accusing it of rampant factionalism and a breakdown in internal discipline. He asserted that the party’s state president is no longer shown appropriate respect, indicating a serious erosion of hierarchy.

Cheema further alleged that Congress leaders have dispatched Bhupinder Singh Banga to interact with politicians in Punjab who have been linked to grave corruption allegations. According to the minister, this move reflects the party’s desperation to forge alliances with tainted figures, thereby revealing an alarming level of internal chaos.

While discussing governance, Cheema reaffirmed that the state’s recent mayoral and municipal council elections in Abohar were carried out with utmost transparency. He emphasized that it was the elected councillors who exercised their voting rights, and there is no legitimate ground to challenge the results.

On the development front, he highlighted the government’s ambitious plan to expand the public bus fleet by 56 percent, bringing the total number of state‑run buses to 3,546. The new fleet will incorporate cutting‑edge technology such as CCTV cameras, GPS tracking, and a fully digital ticketing system, promising a safer and more convenient travel experience for the public.

Cheema concluded by stating that the Punjab government remains focused on delivering transparency, development, and efficient governance, while the opposition continues to sow doubts without factual basis.
