In a groundbreaking moment for Indian technology, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will officially open India’s first homegrown quantum computer testing facility at SRM University in Amaravati on World Quantum Day, April 14. The event will feature a virtual ribbon-cutting for the quantum center at Medha Towers in Gannavaram, underscoring Andhra Pradesh’s bold leap into the quantum future.

Andhra Pradesh claims the distinction of being the first state to launch such a facility, with Amaravati evolving into the Quantum Valley, a global epicenter for quantum innovation. Naidu will observe a live demonstration of quantum system initialization, including remote cooling of the Amaravati 1 Q processor from Medha Towers, while the Amaravati 1 S offers hands-on open access for onlookers.

The Amaravati Quantum Reference Facility (AQRF) establishes India’s independent quantum backbone. As the nucleus of the National Quantum Hardware Network, it equips the nation to innovate, validate, and produce quantum systems worldwide. Key advancements in cryogenics, advanced electronics, and specialized fabrication will revolutionize sectors like defense, medical services, and chip production.

Aligning with the National Quantum Mission, the Quantum Valley will host IBM’s powerful 133-qubit machine and boasts collaborations with more than 80 entities from industry and academia, securing its spot in the global top five quantum hubs. This indigenous hardware milestone strengthens the Valley’s cloud computing, training, and R&D frameworks.

P.S. Pradyumna, secretary to the CM, called it a fulfillment of public aspirations, driven by Naidu’s commitment to fostering a full-spectrum indigenous quantum ecosystem in Amaravati. SRM University’s contributions have ensured student access, preparing the next generation. With traditional computing now routine, the focus shifts to AI and quantum, with Naidu pushing massive skill upgrades—evidenced by 2.5 lakh enrollments at IIT Chennai and beyond.
