Chandigarh Shooting Leaves Minor Dead, Two Injured
A minor boy was shot dead in Chandigarh's Sector-22 on Thursday evening by three men riding a motorcycle, according to police. The victim has been identified as Natik.
Natik was in an auto-rickshaw with a friend when the gunmen fired at them. Two people, including the auto-rickshaw driver, were injured and have been hospitalised.
Police said Natik and his friends had been in a dispute with a rival group for two years. The rivalry led to a clash between the groups in Sector 44 on Thursday. One of the accused reportedly shared a video of the clash on Instagram.
At first, the police suspected the incident was linked to a gang war. The investigation later turned toward the dispute between the two groups. Suspects have been identified, and the probe is continuing.
Earlier this year... more precisely, in September, a head constable of the Chandigarh Police was shot dead at his house in Sector 22. Police had detained his son in that case.
The man killed on Thursday was named as Nitin, who was posted in the accounts branch of the Chandigarh Police. A team from Sector 17 police station reached the spot after being alerted and started an inquiry.
A desi pistol was found at the scene. Forensic experts were summoned to collect evidence from the house. Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur said the victim's wife and son were at home when the shooting took place.
In an earlier, similar incident, Assistant Sub-Inspector Jaswant Singh, posted in Ajnala, Amritsar, had a narrow escape on September 11 when motorcycle-borne attackers attacked him. A bullet cut through his turban before passing out.
