CG Semi Plant Sets Benchmark with 27-Month Turnaround

The CG Semi (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat, has achieved a remarkable milestone by completing its journey from land acquisition to commercial production in just 27 months. Groundbreaking took place on March 13, 2024, and the plant now manufactures advanced semiconductor components for automotive, two‑wheelers and industrial equipment.

Built at a cost of more than INR 7,600 crore, the project is a joint venture with Japan's Renesas Electronics. The partnership has delivered cutting‑edge technology, modern manufacturing processes and stringent quality controls to the Indian manufacturing landscape.

Minister Ashwini Vaishnav credited the rapid execution to proactive support from the Gujarat state administration and efficient implementation mechanisms. The plant not only represents a technical triumph but also a social one: it employs a sizable workforce of young women from under‑represented states, who have undergone specialized training abroad. Plans are under way to establish similar training centres within India to sustain talent development.

Exports from the Sanand plant are expected to reach markets in Japan, the United States and Europe, reinforcing India's emerging role as a reliable node in the global semiconductor supply chain.
