Central government earmarks ₹3,030 crore for three special chemical parks
On 24 July, the Union Cabinet gave the green light to the "Grand Chemical Scheme," allocating ₹3,030 crore to develop three flagship chemical parks across the country. Each park requires a minimum of 2,000 acres of contiguous, dispute‑free land and a state contribution of at least ₹500 crore.
In return, the centre will disburse grants of up to ₹1,000 crore per park, creating a potent public‑private partnership model.
West Bengal, with its proposed ₹1,500 crore Singur park, stands to reap the largest share of the scheme’s benefits. The state’s projected infrastructure outlay exceeds ₹1,500 crore, covering utilities, CETP, TSD‑F, pipelines and other plug‑and‑play facilities designed to attract anchor investors.
If executed, the initiative promises to generate thousands of jobs, stimulate downstream sectors such as agro‑processing, textiles, pharma and electronics, and position the state as a critical node in the national chemical value chain.
