Central government to work with state leaders on flood mitigation in Arunachal and Nagaland

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, visited the parliamentary office of five MPs from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland to review the ongoing flood emergency. The leaders examined damage reports that cite numerous fatalities, submergence of villages, and severe disruption to agricultural cycles.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that the Union will continue to partner with the states through joint task forces, offering financial assistance, reconstruction of damaged roads, and the provision of new housing for displaced families. He also instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to conduct a rapid assessment of crop loss and to design compensation schemes for affected farmers.

Both central and state officials pledged to develop scientific, long‑term flood‑management strategies, including early warning systems and watershed development, to mitigate future calamities. The Prime Minister’s remarks underscored a proactive stance toward disaster resilience in the northeast region.
