Celebrity Endorsements Under Scrutiny as FDA Issues Notices

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has stepped up its oversight by serving notices to three Bollywood stars—Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff—over alleged violations connected to the promotion of Vimal cardamom. BJP leader Praveen Khandelwal hailed the development, saying it demonstrates that legal frameworks apply uniformly, irrespective of a person’s celebrity stature.

Khandelwal warned that the allure of commercial gain should never eclipse the duty to respect consumer protection laws. He noted that millions of admirers look to these actors for guidance, making it imperative for the stars to uphold ethical standards when endorsing products.

The parliamentarian also highlighted a broader issue: the growing tendency among influential personalities and some foreign‑backed enterprises to treat regulations as optional. He described such behaviour as a “serious concern” that undermines the rule of law.

Calling for consistent enforcement across all sectors, Khandelwal urged the FDA to conduct a fair, transparent inquiry and to act decisively based on its findings. He reiterated that a robust legal system, applied equally to everyone, is essential for a healthy market and responsible society.
