CBI traps mining officials with 2 lakh rupee bribe

A sting operation by the Central Bureau of Investigation exposed a ₹2 lakh bribery transaction involving senior mining officials in Hyderabad. The operation, carried out on August 17, resulted in the arrest of the Deputy Director of Mining for Hyderabad‑III South Central Zone, a consultant acting as an intermediary, and a representative of a private mining firm.

The case originated after reports of a fatal mining incident in Prakasham district on June 25. The private company allegedly sought a favorable investigation report by funnelling money through a consultant to the Deputy Director. An initial payment of ₹1 lakh was reportedly made, followed by a scheduled ₹2 lakh on the day of the sting.

CBI officers set up the meeting, witnessed the handover of the cash, and confiscated the amount. Subsequent searches have been launched at locations in Ongole, Kadapa, and Hyderabad. The three suspects appeared before a Vijayawada court, and the investigation remains active.
