CBI’s Sting Operation Nets ₹4.3 Lakh Cash and Jewellery in GST Bribery Probe

NEW DELHI, August 28 — A meticulously planned sting operation by the Central Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the seizure of cash and valuables worth millions of rupees in a GST bribery case.

The operation targeted Vinay Kumar Kantheti, an additional commissioner of CGST, and Rakesh Kumar Sinha, a GST superintendent, along with a private individual, Narinder Rajput. The trio were accused of demanding a sham benefit of forty lakh rupees to influence a GST/royalty dispute involving a stone‑mining enterprise.

On Thursday, CBI agents intercepted Rajput as he attempted to hand over the illicit amount. Both officials subsequently admitted to accepting the money. A thorough search of their homes uncovered 430,000 rupees in cash and jewellery (approximately nine lakh rupees in value).

The suspects have been presented before a court of law. The case is part of a series of recent anti‑corruption actions, including the arrest of two BSNL senior engineers in Bhopal for a 75,000‑rupee bribe connected to pending work orders, underscoring the agency’s relentless pursuit of financial crimes.
