Calls for CBI Probe as Ayodhya Temple Offering Theft Sparks National Outcry
The theft of donations from the newly built Ram Temple in Ayodhya has ignited a nationwide controversy, prompting Irfan Ansari, Jharkhand’s health minister, to demand an immediate CBI investigation. He expressed concern that the missing gold, silver and cash might have been funneled into the ruling party’s election machinery.
Ansari stressed that the incident transcends regional politics, affecting the collective faith of devotees who flock to the shrine to fulfill vows by offering valuable items. He recalled past instances where officials faced action, some even resigning, after similar breaches.
The minister criticized the BJP’s security lapses, questioning the absence of CCTV footage and guard deployment on the day of the robbery. \"When a place of worship cannot guarantee safety, how can the public trust the government?\" he asked.
He appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to facilitate the probe and called on the Supreme Court to oversee the process if necessary. Ansari warned that without a transparent, penny‑by‑penny audit, the party risks losing the moral high ground.
The call for an investigative probe reflects growing pressure on the BJP to address what many see as a betrayal of both faith and public money.
