CBI court hands 2‑year rigorous imprisonment to officials in CGHS scam
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) secured convictions against seven perpetrators in the CGHS fraud case, sentencing them to two years of rigorous imprisonment. Among the convicted were two former government officers—R.K. Srivastava, erstwhile registrar of cooperative societies, and P.N. Manchanda, former assistant registrar.
The crime involved a conspiracy to revive a dormant cooperative housing society by submitting forged documents to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to obtain land. The scheme was uncovered after a prolonged probe that began in 2006, focusing on the illegal resurrection of registered but defunct cooperative housing committees.
All seven were also ordered to pay a fine of INR 75,000 each. The court delivered its judgment on July 14, with the formal sentencing carried out on August 30.
