CBI Brings Back UAE-Based Fugitive Linked to Delhi Assault Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation has successfully concluded a multinational operation to repatriate Sajeer Palli Muppam to India from the UAE. The suspect, who was on the run from Delhi Police inquiries, landed in New Delhi on Wednesday.

This operation underscored the collaborative efforts between Indian ministries and foreign authorities. The CBI, supported by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs, facilitated the suspect’s return under an Interpol Red Notice.

The legal case against the accused involves a grave allegation of sexual assault. Investigators established that the suspect and an accomplice administered narcotics to a 20-year-old woman, rendering her incapacitated. He then transported her to a lodging facility and bypassed security protocols by using stolen identification papers.

Clinical and forensic analyses validated the victim’s account, confirming the commission of sexual violence without consent. The prosecution has already filed an exhaustive chargesheet outlining the circumstances of the crime.

To ensure the suspect’s capture abroad, the Delhi Police requested the CBI to trigger an Interpol Red Notice. Acting on tactical data shared by the NCRB’s New Delhi desk, UAE authorities identified the fugitive’s location and took him into custody.

With all extradition requirements satisfied, Emirati officials formally handed the suspect over to an Indian law enforcement delegation. The Delhi Police team then secured his transport back to India, completing the repatriation on Wednesday.

Operating as India’s designated Interpol liaison, the CBI coordinates all international assistance requests through the India-Pol network. This successful handover reflects a sustained pattern of results, with over 278 fugitives returned to India since 2019 through direct collaboration with overseas policing agencies.
