CBI Arrests CGST Superintendent and Customs Agent in ₹1.5 Crore Bribery Probe

The Central Bureau of Investigation’s Mumbai Anti‑Corruption Branch recorded a case on August 26, 2026 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, after a formal complaint claimed that CGST Superintendent Rakesh Kumar Sinha sought a bribe of ₹1.50 crore from a firm connected to the complainant.

On August 27, the agency orchestrated a sting operation that led to the apprehension of private customs house agent Narinder Rajput, who was accused of collecting ₹40 lakh on behalf of Sinha and Additional Commissioner Vinay Kumar Kanteeti (IAS batch 2009).

All three individuals were presented before the Special CBI Court, which initially denied CBI’s request for custody and granted bail. The high court’s later intervention reversed that decision, placing them under CBI detention for interrogation.

The probe continues, with authorities seeking to locate the additional commissioner, who remains at large.
