CBI Backs Anti-Corruption Drive with Delhi Officer Arrest

The Central Bureau of Investigation has reinforced its anti‑corruption drive by arresting a Delhi police Sub‑Inspector accused of soliciting a bribe of ₹1 lakh.

The officer, stationed at Prashant Vihar Police Station, was alleged to have demanded money from a complainant in exchange for favorable treatment in a pending criminal case. A preliminary search of the officer uncovered ₹20,000 concealed in his attire, which he tried to confiscate.

Following the initial encounter, the officer sought the remaining ₹80,000. CBI operatives orchestrated a controlled meeting, recorded the demand, and apprehended the Sub‑Inspector with the cash in hand on October 4.

The bureau’s statement emphasized the importance of swift action against corrupt officials and urged citizens to file complaints directly with CBI offices or through official digital channels.

In parallel, CBI executed a series of raids in Mumbai on October 3 concerning a massive bank fraud involving Punjab National Bank. The investigation, launched on September 30, centers on a term loan of ₹135 crore that was allegedly diverted, resulting in an estimated loss of ₹93.44 crore.

Charges under the Criminal Conspiracy Act, the Prevention of Corruption Act, and related statutes have been filed against the accused in the banking case.
