Caste Politics Heat Up as Rajbhar Calls Mayawati a ‘Brahmastra’

Uttar Pradesh’s political landscape grew more volatile on September 22 when minister Om Prakash Rajbhar labeled BSP supremo Mayawati a “Brahmastra,” implying that any approach towards her could become a fatal trap for Samajwadi Party leaders. Rajbhar’s comments followed Akhilesh Yadav’s remarks on Mayawati, where the SP chief avoided detailed discussion of the June 2 guest‑house incident.

Rajbhar accused the SP of fostering caste‑based antagonism, citing speeches that insult Brahmins and promising to “expel upper‑caste communities” should the party regain power. He urged Akhilesh Yadav to openly admit that the BJP allegedly protected Mayawati from a violent act.

The minister also referenced Shivpal Yadav’s statements, claiming the SP had previously shielded Mayawati from investigations. He raised concerns about government land being used for private constructions and questioned why such land was not transferred to a school’s name.

Linking the present talk of dividing Uttar Pradesh into four regions to the Mulayam Singh era, Rajbhar said Mayawati had long been an ally of that vision. He mentioned a conversation with the Prime Minister about the division of the 27 percent reservation quota, asserting that a forthcoming caste‑wise census would clear any remaining hurdles.
