Cambay Fault Generates Small 2.6 Quake Close to Ahmedabad, Experts Advise Calm

Scientists recorded a low‑magnitude earthquake of 2.6 on the Richter scale near the Bawla sector, about 25 kilometres from Ahmedabad, at approximately 04:40 on Thursday. The seismic episode was captured solely by sensitive monitoring devices, and Dr. Santosh Kumar confirmed that the tremor was too weak for people to notice. The quake originated along the Cambay Fault, a tectonic feature extending from the Rajasthan‑Gujarat border through the Cambay Basin toward Anand and Surat. The seismologist emphasized that such isolated, weak events are part of the normal seismic rhythm of the fault and do not signal an imminent major shock. No damage was observed, and there are no safety concerns for the surrounding communities.
