Calls for Immediate Legal Safeguards for Vande Mataram Amid Growing Controversy

Haridwar – The introduction of the Vande Mataram Bill has sparked a wave of commentary across religious forums and civic platforms. Mahamandaleshwar Karoli Shankar Mahadev, representing the Udasi akhada, welcomed the draft, describing it as a timely intervention for the nation’s moral fabric.

He argued that the legislation should have been enacted during the anti-colonial movement to protect the sanctity of national symbols. Mahadev highlighted that Vande Mataram embodies reverence for the motherland and calls for an ingrained sense of responsibility among all citizens.

The spiritual chief appealed to policymakers to embed firm punitive measures for anyone who insults the flag, anthem, or any emblem of the Republic. He urged that the law incorporate swift judicial processes and stringent sentencing, ensuring that disrespectful acts are met with decisive action.

According to Mahadev, cultivating gratitude toward the country's land, culture, and resources is a civic duty. He stressed that reinforcing positive societal attitudes and patriotism will strengthen national cohesion, urging the government to finalize the bill without further delay.
