CAG Report to Highlight Corruption Across All Levels of West Bengal Government

Kolkata, July 22 – West Bengal will present the Comptroller and Auditor General's comprehensive audit of the state's income and spending in the Legislative Assembly on July 25, marking the culmination of the extended budget session for FY 2026-27.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the schedule while addressing the house, emphasizing that the CAG report will expose any misuse of public funds, from the highest offices to lower‑level officials. He urged lawmakers to treat the findings as a catalyst for reform.

The move follows Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta's promise made during the budget proposal rollout last month to bring the CAG's observations before the legislature. The government now seeks to uphold its pledge for fiscal transparency.

Adhikari warned that accountability will not be selective; anyone found linked to corruption, including senior ministers, will be subject to investigation. He indicated that the next assembly session will focus on the report’s recommendations and decide on appropriate remedial actions.

The audit is expected to uncover systemic issues, prompting the state to recommend filing FIRs against those involved. The Chief Minister also brought up past allegations of corruption in the Amphan cyclone relief distribution, urging that lessons be learned and corrective steps taken.
