Budgam district in Jammu and Kashmir has embarked on an ambitious 100-day ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’ to purge drugs from its veins. Launched Saturday under the broader UT-wide initiative by LG Manoj Sinha, the drive was formally unveiled at the local Drug De-Addiction Centre by DC Athar Aamir Khan and SSP Hariprasad K.K.

Jointly hosted by social welfare, information, health, and police departments, the campaign targets the root causes of addiction plaguing society, especially the younger generation. DC Khan, in his keynote, called for relentless community involvement beyond mere sensitization.

‘We need prevention, rigorous law enforcement, accessible treatment, and robust rehab programs,’ Khan asserted. He painted a grim picture of drugs unraveling social fabric and appealed to families, educators, and leaders to step up with proactive measures like timely counseling and support networks.

Reaffirming administrative resolve, the DC announced heightened crackdowns on smugglers alongside upgrades to de-addiction infrastructure. Post-launch, he toured the centre, assessing operations and emphasizing patient-centric approaches from staff.

SSP Hariprasad outlined ongoing police operations, urging citizens to report suspicious activities. The officials then led a plantation drive at a local school, blending environmental stewardship with anti-drug messaging. Speaking to students, Khan highlighted addiction’s devastating consequences and motivated them as agents of transformation.

As Budgam ignites this mission-mode battle, expectations run high for tangible results in curbing narcotics, paving the way for a resilient, addiction-free populace.
