At a ceremony commemorating the late Major Bob Kathing, the Assam Rifles, in partnership with the United Service Institution, delved into the growing menace of online disinformation. The lecture underscored how false stories propagated on social channels can fuel unrest in the northeastern region.

Retired Vice Admiral Sanjay J. Singh highlighted Major Kathing’s enduring contribution to regional harmony. He warned that coordinated misinformation campaigns pose new challenges to both security operations and community trust.

Attendees, ranging from active‑duty officers to academic experts, outlined actionable strategies such as coordinated monitoring, community outreach, and digital literacy workshops aimed at neutralising hostile narratives.
