BMLTA Act amendments targeted to fast‑track tunnel road projects, BJP claims

Tejasvi Surya argued that the Karnataka government altered Section 19 of the BMLTA Act to remove procedural hurdles that previously required scientific scrutiny and inter‑agency coordination for major infrastructure works. He said the changes were engineered to smooth the path for the long‑tunnel road scheme, which faces legal challenges in the Karnataka High Court.

Surya reminded that the BMLTA Act was introduced after 18 years of sustained citizen activism demanding transparent urban development. He demanded the reversal of the amendments, insisting that the original safeguards be reinstated to protect Bangalore’s long‑term urban plan.
