BMC sets strict safety rules for construction sites as gale‑force winds threaten Mumbai
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) released a set of rigorous safety instructions for all construction sites across the city after the IMD warned of 70‑80 km/h winds. Contractors, architects, licensed surveyors and project managers were ordered to conduct thorough inspections of temporary scaffolding, exposed building materials, crane equipment and formwork. All tower cranes, construction lifts and material hoists must be checked for stability, and any activity involving lifts or work at height should be halted if wind conditions become hazardous. Designated exclusion zones must be established to protect workers and pedestrians from falling debris. The BMC also mandated the use of personal protective equipment and fall‑arrest gear for all personnel on site until weather conditions improve.
