BJP’s ‘Washing Machine’ Tactic, Says Congress’ Anwar on Recent Controversies

Congress spokesperson Tariq Anwar used a media interaction on August 19 to outline what he described as the BJP’s “washing machine” approach to opposition politics. He cited the recent arrest of ex‑minister Satish Jain in the Delhi Water Board case as evidence that the ruling party seeks to vilify, detain, and eventually absorb dissenting leaders.

Anwar highlighted that several politicians with pending corruption allegations have been granted ministerial portfolios, suggesting a pattern where the party sanitises problematic figures by bringing them into its fold.

The Congress leader also echoed Rahul Gandhi’s warning about OBC agitation, noting that the current census excludes a specific OBC column, igniting frustration among the community that forms a sizable portion of India’s population.

On the Vande Matrav debate, Anwar reminded listeners that the patriotic song has been performed since the nation’s independence, across political spectrums. He accused the government of exploiting the issue to shift public focus away from more critical governance challenges.

Lastly, addressing the JPSC examination dispute in Jharkhand, Anwar commended the state’s early engagement with student protesters while insisting that a CBI probe remains essential, given concerns over the agency’s impartiality expressed by the Supreme Court.
