BJP to Win Two-Thirds Majority in UP, Says Minister Chauhan

Mau, October 22: Uttar Pradesh minister Dara Singh Chauhan has asserted that the BJP will win a two-thirds majority and form the government again in the state under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's leadership in the forthcoming Assembly elections. He also said the NDA will retain power at the Centre in 2029 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chauhan targeted Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, accusing him of remembering Azam Khan only as elections approach. In an interview, the minister noted that the Yogi Adityanath government has been running Uttar Pradesh since 2017, and the Modi-led government has been at the Centre since 2014.

He argued that the double engine government is advancing development in the state. The government, he said, is working for the welfare of all sections of society and not on the basis of caste. Groups that were overlooked for a long time after independence are also now receiving benefits from government programmes.

The minister said schemes such as free gas connections for the poor have been introduced under Prime Minister Modi. He added that the state government is generating employment for youth and carrying out recruitments in several fields. Chauhan also claimed that salaries of employees from various categories, who had long awaited a pay raise, have been increased.

Chauhan said the BJP will secure a two-thirds majority in the 2027 Assembly elections on the strength of development works and public welfare schemes. He added that the people of the state are waiting for the polls and will back the BJP once again.

On Akhilesh Yadav's meeting with Azam Khan, Chauhan asked why the SP chief did not think of Khan when he was involved in legal cases. He accused Yadav of meeting Khan close to the elections in an effort to shift the political landscape. Chauhan observed that Khan was a significant Samajwadi Party leader who served the party for a long time, but said Khan is also unhappy with the party's conduct.

Chauhan claimed that opposition parties are rattled by the BJP government's development record. Referring to the INDIA bloc meeting, he said the opposition has repeatedly blamed EVMs for its election losses since the Modi-led NDA government came to power. He urged opposition parties that question election outcomes to back their allegations with proof.

He cited election victories of opposition parties in Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh, where EVMs were also used, and said it is not appropriate to question EVMs only after a defeat.
