BJP Targets Graduate and Teacher Electorates in Pune and Nagpur Ahead of 2026 Council Vote
The Bharatiya Janata Party has officially announced its candidates for three Legislative Council seats that are limited to graduate and teacher voters in Maharashtra. The press note, dated October 4, 2026, names Dr. Smita Yogesh Jadhav for the Pune graduate seat, Sudhakar Vitthalrao Kohle for the Nagpur graduate seat, and Kaustubh Murli Dhar Gawde for the Pune teachers’ seat.
By selecting Dr. Jadhav, the party aims to capture the support of educated women and professional classes in Pune. Sudhakar Kohle, a long‑time party activist, is expected to leverage his organizational experience to win over Nagpur’s graduate electorate. Meanwhile, Kaustubh Gawde’s background in education positions him to appeal directly to teachers, who form the exclusive voting base for the teacher constituency.
These nominations underscore BJP’s focus on candidates whose academic and professional profiles align with the unique voter pool of graduate and teacher seats. The upcoming council election will be the first major test for the Mahayuti coalition in Maharashtra, prompting the party to accelerate its ground campaign in the weeks ahead.
